Today I will begin to make additions to our WIKI!!!! Thanks for the time to figure this out.
Deepti and I had took our learning buddies on a walk in the cons. We both had a similar focus for our walk. Deepti wanted her grade two class to notice what makes the conservation area a place people might want to visit .... what makes it special. Great topics coming from the kids included the meaning of the word conservation, the reading of posted information in the cons. as well as just plain enjoyment of the beautiful day and the scenic location we were in!!! Imagine our 34 kids lying by the river listening to the sounds of nature, soaking up some rays and watching the geese. We were also on the lookout for birds and nests as the kindergarten kids are learning about animals that hatch from eggs.
Overall the experience was pleasant but did not lead to any follow up in my class. We may have Deeptis class share their postcards with us before passing them on to the conservation area. It was a bit of a test about the endurance of my class hiking up and down snake hill. Time was a factor and I did not get back in time for my planning time teacher. Oh well! Time seems to be the biggest factor for me and attaching an activity that follows it is also a problem as it may be two days later that I see them again. We could certainly do the same follow up with the postcards. I'll let you know how it goes.
The kindergarten students were able to list a large number of reasons why people might visit a conservation area and thanks to our learning buddies they have a better idea of the word conservation. The buddy system is the best for us, hopefully they get some benefits too.
